iPhone 5 Specs & Features as Suggested by the iPad 2 Ahead of Release Date [New iPad 2 Specs & Features Suggests What’s Coming from the Next-gen iPhone 5]

Just like last year the launch of a new iOS device like a tablet, which is basically a bigger iPhone could offer us a little bit of insight on what the next-gen iPhone 5 will have to offer. We’ve seen Steve Jobs take the stage yesterday and introduce the iPad 2 to the world and we now have specs and features for the tablet and some of them point to the future of the iPhone.

Overall Design

Right now the iPad 2 is thinner than the iPhone 4. Will Apple keep the same design for the iPhone 5 or will it completely change it, and I don’t mean just the exterior antennas of the iPhone 4 right now, but the whole current iPhone design. Maybe a bigger, 4-inch, display?

Black and White

The iPad 2 will be available in white too, and hopefully this time around Apple will have no problems painting it. That also means we’re expecting a white iPhone 5 too later this year.

1GHz Dual-Core Processor

Apple didn’t really push the envelope today when it comes to processors. We have a new A5 application processor inside the iPad 2, just as suggested by rumors most and likely built by Samsung, and while the A5 is a dual-core CPU we’re still looking at 1GHz speeds. The same processor is most likely going to be used inside the iPhone 5 too.

More RAM

How much RAM memory does the iPad 2 have? 256MB or 512MB? Apple didn’t say but if the company used the same 256MB module on the iPad 2 then can we assume that the iPhone 5 will use the same amount of RAM memory as the iPhone 4 (which is 512MB)? Or will Apple increase it?

Same Storage

The iPad 2 will come in the same 16GB, 32GB and 64GB flavors which leads us to believe the iPhone 5 will also offer 16GB and 32GB version later this summer.

No LTE Support

We didn’t really believe the iPad 2 will come with 4G LTE support on board, and the same thing will happen with the iPhone 5. Apple isn’t really ready offer LTE support at least not until more U.S. and worldwide customers get proper 4G LTE coverage.

Different CDMA and GSM Radios

Apple has three different iPad 2 models, a Wi-Fi only version and two Wi-Fi + 3G versions, one for AT&T and one for Verizon. So if we’re looking at a different GSM and CDMA iPad 2 tablets chances are the same thing will happen with the iPhone 5. Instead of placing all these radios inside one single phone we could have a GSM and a CDMA iPhone 5 launching this summer.

Better Battery Life

Apple managed to offer the same 10-hour battery in a significantly thinner iPad 2. That must mean they could improve battery life on the iPhone 5 too, although there’s really not a lot of room inside the phone, a smaller device than the tablet, for extra battery space. That’s assuming Apple will use the same iPhone 4 design for its next-gen handset, of course.

No Thunderbolt Support

The iPad 2 didn’t get any Thunderbolt support yesterday so I’m afraid the same thing will happen with the iPhone 5 when it comes out this summer.

Better cameras

The iPhone 4 already has two cameras, a 5-megapixel back-camera and a VGA front-facing camera. Will Apple offer us better cams in the next-gen iPhone? The iPad 2 has some entry-level shooters so we can’t use it for reference in this department

NFC Support

The iPad 2 doesn’t have NFC support although you wouldn’t use a 10-inch device as an eWallet, would you? But that iPhone 5 should offer NFC support considering that Android rivals will do the same thing later this year.

Same Prices or Cheaper

Tim Cook did say that Apple doesn’t want to sell the iPhone only to the rich. But would Apple sell the iPhone 5 for less than the iPhone 4 models when purchased with subsidized contracts? The iPad 2 will cost you exactly what the current iPad costs, which still makes it a very affordable device.

But let’s hear it from you, folks, what do you want to see in the next-gen iPhone 5 as there’s plenty of time before the handset gets released.
